About The Book

One couple. An ocean between them. Fifty-one years of faith, hope, and love.

In the spring of 1972, a young Italian former seminarian and a girl from Kansas fell in love. Then the world pulled them apart: military duty, immigration rules, an ocean, and months of waiting that could have ended their story before it began.

John faced a painful choice: become an Italian draft dodger and risk prison, or comply and risk losing his fiancée and a chance at an American future. Leaving also meant no guaranteed way to return to the U.S.

I’ll Hold God’s Hand While I Wait is John Bosio’s memoir of his marriage to Teri. It is built on the letters and journals they kept through every season. You will read their courtship in the words they wrote to each other across the Atlantic. You will follow them through the early struggles of learning to love, the joys of raising a family, the storms of lost jobs and illness, and, at last, Teri’s long farewell. Alzheimer’s slowly took her memory but could not take her faith or their love.

Through it all, John came to see what he calls God’s hand: the quiet Providence that was guiding them even when they could not see it. When Teri died on August 19, 2024, he made a promise to her and to himself. He would hold God’s hand while he waits to be reunited with her.

This book is for anyone who has loved deeply, waited patiently, or grieved. It will especially speak to:

  • married couples who want to see what faithful love looks like over a lifetime

  •  families who care for a loved one with memory loss

  •  readers who are grieving and looking for hope

  •  anyone who wonders where God is when life is hard

John is donating the net proceeds from this book, after expenses, to the Consolata Missionaries, the missionaries who formed him in faith.

About the author: John Bosio has spent more than four decades helping couples and families. He was a marriage and family therapist and has written Catholic marriage and family books and programs, many of them with Teri. He lives near Nashville, Tennessee.

Reviews

"I found the exchange of letters and the plot of the story an excellent testament to the persevering power of love centered on God. It was excellent, particularly because it was real: real vulnerability, real compassion; real faith and real hope… It posses spiritual power that could benefit others.”

Fr. Jon Meyer Los Angeles, CA

"The book is romanticism conjugated with realism - admirable faith, prayer, and trust in Providence. The book is very enlightening, and I think it will help many couples and families. With its realism, it helped me understand family life in its multiple dimensions. "

Fr. Joseph Inveradi, IMC Turin Italy ‍ ‍

About The Book

What if Lent were less about what you give up—and more about the friendship with God you develop along the way?

I Hold His Hand: Grow in Friendship with God, A Lenten Journal, offers a simple, personal practice for growing closer to God during Lent. Inspired by a lesson that shaped author John Bosio’s life and marriage, the journal invites you to approach God as a child reaching for the hand of a loving Father.

Each day from Ash Wednesday through Holy Thursday, you are guided through four simple movements: Identify what is stirring in your heart, Talk to God about it honestly, Listen to God’s Word, and Walk Together with Him throughout the day.

No complicated exercises or perfect words are required. Bring whatever you are experiencing—joy, gratitude, worry, disappointment, loneliness, or hope—and let it become an invitation to conversation with God.

Daily reflections, Scripture, Psalms, prayers, and generous space for writing help you develop a habit that endures long after Lent has ended: noticing God’s presence, speaking with Him throughout the day, listening for His voice, and trusting that you never walk alone.

This Lent, reach out. Hold His hand. And discover the friendship with God that has been waiting for you.
